GUIDANCE NOTES

Resettlement Focus

The primary aim of the courses on this web site is to provide you with the tools to help you make the transition from your present position into civilian management as well as other sectors, including charities and other not-for-profit organisations. In addition they will also allow you to gain valuable qualifications, should you wish to do so.

Levels 5 & 7 Executive Management Qualifications

These consist of the "Award", the "Certificate" and the "Diploma". Each Bristol Management Centre "Success" series resettlement module provides credits towards these qualifications as well as resulting in other internationally recognised qualifications such as PRINCE2®, Managing Successful Programmes (MSP®) and Management of Risk (MoR®) on successful completion of exams and assessments (see Qualifications). The various routes to the Levels 5 & 7 qualifications are described in the Route Map. You will see from this that the qualifications are also "nested", so that once you have completed an Award you can move on to the Certificate and thence to the Diploma etc, without wasted effort or money.

Bristol Management Centre strongly recommends that you consider doing the Level 5 Award in Management first, whatever your present seniority, because it is the simplest and most straightforward route to putting a meaningful qualification on your CV.

Please note, that the Levels 5 & 7 assessments require a significant commitment of time and effort over and above attendance on the courses themselves and the associated end-of-module examinations, and you will need to plan your work schedule carefully in order to ensure you have the best chance of successfully completing the qualification of your choice. See Qualifications

Nonetheless, with application, you can complete the Level 5 Award assignments in the evenings and at the weekend whilst attending the courses you have selected, or shortly thereafter.

Enhanced Learning Credits (ELCs)

All BMC "Success" series courses qualify for ELC support because they are all accredited at Level 5 or Level 7 on the QCF.

Because there can only be a single ELC claim in any year (April to March) you must be careful to choose your course(s) so as to avoid wasting your entitlement. We have heard horror stories of people entitled to upper tier ELC being persuaded to choose only a single course such as PRINCE2® and thereby wasting up to £1,000 of ELC support for that year.

BMC offers carefully designed packages of courses which allow you to take the best advantage possible of your ELCs whether upper tier or lower tier (see the Route Map). If you would like to talk any of your proposed plans through with one of our Instructors before committing yourself, you have only to pick up the phone and call us. We shall be happy to help.

Note: Preparatory work for the various assessments/assignments associated with the Levels 5 & 7 Awards can be commenced towards the end of the first week of attendance. It is possible to complete the Level 5 ones by the end of the second week but not the Level 7 ones. Students should allow a further 2 to 5 weeks subsequently in order to do so. The assessments for the Level 7 Certificate and Diploma consist of those for the Award plus a number of others. Students should allow up to a further 9 weeks to complete those associated with the Certificate and up to another 9 weeks for the Diploma. Please refer to Qualifications for further details.
